DENVER – The No. 14 University of Denver women's lacrosse team is set to wrap up its 2019 regular season schedule on the road against Villanova on Friday, April 26 at 5 p.m. MT. The Pioneers are 12-2 (4-0 BIG EAST) on the year, and look for their first BIG EAST regular season championship. Villanova sits at 10-6 (3-1 BIG EAST), winning their last two contests against Temple and Butler.
When the Pioneers defeated Marquette on senior night last Friday, April 19, they clinched at least a share of the regular season title, in addition to a spot in the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament. The Crimson and Gold will likely be the No. 1 seed in the tournament, and will face either Villanova or Marquette in the semifinals. Georgetown will enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed, respectively.
Denver checked in at the No. 14 spot in the IWLCA coaches poll this week, up one spot from last week.
Quintin Hoch-Bullen leads the team with 42 goals, 80 shots and 52 points this season,
Hannah Liddy leads with 35 assists and
Katherine Fischer leads with 26 caused turnovers.
Carson Gregg has spent 630 minutes in net for the Pioneers, totaling 67 saves and 7.23 goals-against average, ranked No. 1 in the NCAA.
The Wildcats check in at the No. 2 spot in the BIG EAST standings, having lost to Georgetown 12-8 on April 13. Villanova looks for its first post-season run, never having made it to the conference tournament. Attackers Brittany Bruno and Liz Trojan lead the team, each totaling 30 goals on the year. Trojan has started in all 16 games for Villanova, also accumulating 10 assists and 40 points.
After taking on Villanova, the Crimson and Gold will hit the road for the BIG EAST tournament, hosted in Milwaukee, Wis. May 2-4.
