Pioneers Face Villanova in BIG EAST Tournament Semifinals

DENVER – The No. 15 University of Denver women's lacrosse team will travel to Milwaukee, Wis. on Thursday, May 2 in preparation to face the Villanova Wildcats in the semifinal round of the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament. The game will be at 2 p.m. MT, broadcast by the BIG EAST Digital Network.
 
The Pioneers wrapped up the regular season with a perfect 5-0 mark, clinching their first conference title since the 2014 season (9-0; MPSF). Entering the Tournament as the No. 1 seed, the Crimson and Gold will face the Wildcats in back-to-back contests, bringing home a 14-8 victory last Friday, April 26. The Pioneers lead the nation in two statistical categories, ranking No. 1 in scoring defense (6.67) and assists per game (9.33). 
 
Junior goalkeeper Carson Gregg checks in to the No. 1 spot for goal-against average in the NCAA (7.30) to lead the Pioneers to their 13-2 record on the year. Denver is on a six-game hot streak, last dropping a contest against Virginia Teach in overtime on March 17 (15-14). Quintin Hoch-Bullen leads the team with 45 goals, 84 shots and 56 points this season, while Hannah Liddy has totaled 38 assists and Maddie Baum leads with 81 draw controls.
 
After falling to Denver on April 26, the Wildcats dropped to 10-7 (3-2 BIG EAST) on the year, entering the tournament as the No. 4 seed. Villanova has only advanced to the BIG EAST post–season twice in program history, this season included. Liz Trojan leads the team with 33 goals on the year, while Ashley Lynch leads with 28 assists and Devin Hassinger ranks No. 8 in the NCAA with 7.35 draw controls per game.
 
The winner of Thursday's contest will advance to the BIG EAST Championship, held on Saturday, May 4 at 12:30 p.m. MT.
