[18/17] Denver Falls to [RV/28] Washington, 2-1

Denver will continue a six-match road trip to open the 2019 campaign Monday at Seattle (7 p.m. MT)

SEATTLE The [18/17] University of Denver men's soccer team fell to [RV/28] Washington 2-1 on the opening day of the men's college soccer season Friday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.

"There were great moments tonight where we made championship plays, but it was not consistent enough throughout the entire 90 minutes," head coach Jamie Franks said. "We need to play every play. Tonight was a game of transitions and we were not proactive enough. This is the starting point. If we want to grow and get better, we will. I love this team. It's not the result we wanted, but it's a good performance from the guys. We need to recover, learn from some of our mistakes tonight and get ready for Monday."

In his first game as a Pioneer, junior forward Josh Drack (Chandler, Ariz.) opened the scoring 26 seconds into the 2019 campaign off an assist from fellow newcomer and junior forward Preston Judd (Henderson, Nev.). Drack's opener was the fastest goal to start a match in Denver's Division I history, 46 seconds faster than Brian Todd's breakthrough at New Mexico on October 3, 1998.

Washington evened up the score in the sixth minute through Gio Miglietti's equalizer from Dylan Teves.

Teves setup Washington's second goal as well in the 69th minute, playing another cross into the area, and this time finding the run of Blake Bodily, who smashed his one-timer off the underside of the crossbar and over the line to give the Huskies the 2-1 lead.

Denver outshot Washington 10-8 in the contest, putting eight of its 10 chances on target. Washington took six of the match's eight corners.
