DENVER – University of Denver gymnastics sophomore Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) was named the Big 12 Event Specialist of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
 
Vasquez recorded her second perfect 10.0 on beam of the season during DU's February 16 meet against George Washington and helped lead Denver to a program-record 49.650 on the event. It was just the third perfect beam score in school history, and the DU sophomore became the third Denver gymnast to earn multiple perfect scores in a single season.
 
Her score also contributed to Denver's 197.425 team score, which matched the team's highest tally of the year.
 
This is Vasquez's fourth Event Specialist award of the season and the seventh weekly conference award of her career.
 
In total, DU has earned seven Big 12 awards in 2020. At least one Denver gymnast has now earned recognition from the Big 12 Conference in four consecutive weeks.
 
The No. 5-ranked University of Denver gymnastics team, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, competes at home against No. 15 BYU on Saturday, February 16, at 6 p.m. in Hamilton Gymnasium.
 
NCAA REGIONALS ARE COMING TO DENVER
