Alfaro and Marin Compete at Jr. Pan American Games

Marin sets multiple national records at four-day event

CALI, COLUMBIA – University of Denver swimmers Daniela Alfaro and Ines Marin finished up competition for their national teams on Monday at the Jr. Pan American Games.  

Alfaro, representing Costa Rica, competed in four events over a three-day span from Nov. 26-28. The sophomore participated in the 200 fly, 100 fly, 200 and 800 freestyle. Alfaro took 10th place overall in the 200 fly (2:20.49) this past Friday to start her weekend. On Sunday, the Costa Rica native placed 10th overall in the 800 free with a time of 9:23.10.

"It is always an honor to represent your country and Daniela and Ines did an incredible job doing that at Jr Pan Ams," head coach Alicia Hicken-Franklin said.

Marin, competing for Chile, was in three events, the 200, 100 and 50 freestyle from Nov. 27-29. The sophomore started strong, placing fifth in the 200 freestyle on Saturday with a time of 2:04.55. Marin hit the water again for the 100 free on Saturday, posting her fastest time of 57.23, a setting a new Chilean record. Marin was at it again on Monday, taking ninth overall in the 50 free after setting another Chilean record of 26.46, breaking the previous time of 26.67.

"Both Daniela and Ines raced very well and competed at a high level," Hicken-Franklin said. "Ines setting two Chilean National Records is a highlight for her.  Both women are now preparing to compete at Short Course World Championships in Abu Dhabi, UAE."
Denver heads out to Princeton for the Big Al Invite from Dec. 3-5.
