Denver Improves to Tie for No. 9 Nationally

DU begins postseason ranked in top 10 on three events

DENVER – For the second week in a row, the University of Denver women's gymnastics team increased its national ranking by two spots, moving into a tie for No. 9 in the Week 10 Road to Nationals rankings, released on Monday.

Rankings are now determined by National Qualifying Score (NQS). For 2021, NQS calculation is modified due to accommodate COVID-19. For this year only, NQS is calculated with the four highest scores of the season, at least two of which must be from away meets. No scores are dropped this year, and the four scores are averaged.

DENVER'S NQS
197.650 – Home
197.375 – Away
197.000 – Home
196.875 – Away
NQS: 197.225

DU's NQS increased by almost two tenths after the team's 197.375 performance at BYU, which tied the third-highest road score in program history. Denver's current NQS of 197.225 is now the program's second-highest ever, behind only the record-shattering 2019 season.

TEAM NATIONAL RANKINGS
Overall: tie-No. 9 (197.225 NQS)
Vault: No. 22 (49.119)
Bars: No. 6 (49.444)
Beam: No. 7 (49.413)
Floor: No. 9 (49.425)

DU held steady at No. 6 in the country on bars after improving its NQS to the highest in school history. The team also increased its NQSs on beam and floor, both moving up to the second-best scores in program history.

This is only the second time in Denver history that the team has held NQS above 49.400 on three events in a single year, joining only the 2019 season.

INDIVIDUAL NATIONAL RANKINGS
Senior Lynnzee Brown (Kansas City, Mo.)
All-Around: No. 3 (39.738)
Vault: tie-No. 19 (9.913)
Bars: No. 3 (9.956)
Beam: tie-No. 20 (9.919)
Floor: No. 2 (9.969)

Junior Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.)
Beam: tie-No. 8 (9.944)

Senior Emily Glynn (Longmont, Colo.)
Bars: tie-No. 21 (9.906)

After back-to-back record-setting performance, Brown set a new school record for top all-around NQS, moving ahead of Maddie Karr's 39.680 from 2020. She is also nearly tied for DU's all-time NQSs on floor and bars – just .001 from Nina McGee's 2016 floor record and .004 from Karr's 2020 bars record.

Brown's No. 3 ranking in the all-around and No. 2 ranking on floor are both the highest a DU gymnast has been ranked by NQS since McGee was No. 2 and No. 1, respectively, in 2016.

Vasquez also increased her beam ranking this week, moving up two spots with the second-highest NQS in program history on the event and only behind her own record of 9.960 from 2020.

Glynn returned to the bars rankings with the highest NQS of her career, which also ranks among the top 10 in Denver history.

The University of Denver gymnastics team, presented by Your Front Range Toyota Stores, begins its postseason with the 2021 Big 12 Championship, hosted by West Virginia, on Saturday, March 20. The meet will be televised live on ESPN2.
