DU Gymnastics Begins Postseason Ranked No. 15

Denver increases overall, beam, floor NQSs ahead of Big 12 Championship

DENVER – The University of Denver gymnastics team is ranked No. 15 in the country in the Week 10 Road to Nationals rankings, which were released on Monday.

Rankings are now determined by National Qualifying Score (NQS). NQS is calculated with the six highest scores of the season, at least three of which must be from away meets. The highest of the six scores is dropped, and the remaining five scores are averaged.

DENVER'S NQS
197.600 – Away
197.075 – Away
197.000 – Home
196.850 – Home
196.800 – Home
196.625 – Away
NQS: 196.870

TEAM NATIONAL RANKINGS
Overall: No. 15 (196.870 NQS)
Vault: No. 21 (49.180)
Bars: No. 12 (49.345)
Beam: No. 12 (49.315)

DU increased its overall NQS by another .040 following Sunday's 196.800 against Arkansas, Oregon State and Nebraska. The team's NQS currently ranks sixth all-time in DU history and is a quarter tenth out of the top five.

Denver's 49.400 on beam on March 13 helped improve the team's NQS on the event and moved DU up in the national rankings this week. DU also increased its floor NQS to 49.200.

Individually, sophomore Rylie Mundell is the only Denver gymnast to register enough meets to earn an NQS in the all-around (39.135). In addition to her all-around career high set on March 13 (39.525), she added a personal-best 9.950 on vault, which improved her team-leading NQS on the event to 9.875. She also owns the team's top NQS on bars (9.895) and beam (9.860). Fellow sophomore Bella Mabanta has Denver's highest NQS on floor (9.865).

Sophomore Jessica Hutchinson will not be able to register enough away meets to earn an NQS in the all-around or on beam or floor. She has DU's highest season averages – both above 9.900 – on beam and floor, and she owns an all-around average of 39.550.

Denver starts the postseason by hosting the 2022 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, March 19, at 5 p.m. in Magness Arena. Joining DU will be No. 1 Oklahoma, Iowa State and West Virginia, and the meet will be televised live on ESPNU.
