DENVER – For the first time in program history, the University of Denver women's lacrosse team will host both a reigning national champion and the top-ranked team in the country when No. 1 Boston College visits Peter Barton Stadium this Wednesday, March 9, at 1 p.m. MT. The matchup between the two undefeated teams marks their first meeting against one another in 19 years.
The No. 11-ranked Pioneers are 6-0 on the season and are coming off a 10-6 win at home against No. 16 Vanderbilt on Sunday in snowy conditions. DU also picked up a victory against a ranked opponent on Feb. 18 by defeating then-No. 14 Stanford 8-6 in Northern California.
DU will be celebrating a "Wednesday White Out" at the contest and is calling for all fans in attendance to wear white. Admission to the game is free, but a donation to the program is much appreciated.
Denver last played a No. 1-ranked team on May 18, 2019 when it fell 17-8 at Maryland in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
Boston College (6-0) took on Louisville in an ACC matchup on Saturday and won 19-10. The Eagles, who claimed their first national title in women's lacrosse last year, boast wins this year over No. 4 Northwestern, No. 13 Virginia and No. 24 Massachusetts.
Denver's attack has accounted for 77 goals this season, while its defense has only allowed 35. DU's defense ranks second in the nation in average goals against at 5.83 per game. Boston College has 96 goals on offense and ranks 10th in the country averaging 16.0 per contest. The Eagles are also 10th on defense, allowing only 8.17 markers per outing (54 total).
BC attacker Charlotte North, the 2021 Tewaaraton Award winner as national player of the year, sits third in the nation at 4.6 goals per game.
The Pioneers have won 21 straight home games dating back to March 30, 2019.
Last Time Out
Denver remained undefeated in 2022 after a 10-6 win over Vanderbilt on Sunday. Freshman
Lauren Black netted her third career hat trick, tallying three goals and also added an assist in the contest as well.
Bea Behrins added a hat trick of her own, while
Charlotte Boote and
Kayla DeRose each contributed two goals to the scoresheet.
Emelia Bohi made six saves in net to hold off the Commodores. Junior defender
Sam Thacker continued her defensive dominance by grabbing a career-high six ground balls and causing three turnovers.
DI Series History vs. Boston College
Denver and Boston College have only met three times since each program's inception, with the Eagles winning each of the previous three matchups. The two teams first clashed on Feb. 21, 2000 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with the Eagles winning 19-10. DU's
