No. 8 Denver Hosts No. 20 UConn in BIG EAST Tilt Saturday

The Pioneers are tied for their highest ranking in program, history, having also been ranked eighth to end the 2019 season

DENVER – The No. 8 University of Denver women's lacrosse program will host No. 20 Connecticut in its BIG EAST home opener on Saturday at 12 p.m. MT in a rematch of last season's BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Championship game. Saturday's game is the program's inaugural Pride Game.
 
LAST TIME OUT:

The Pioneers got off to a hot start last Saturday, scoring 11 of the first 12 goals in a 17-8 win at Butler to open the conference slate with a victory. Bea Behrins led the Pioneers offense with eight points on seven goals and an assist, while Sam Thacker tied a career-high with six ground balls to go with five caused turnovers to lead the Denver defense. D1 SERIES HISTORY VS. CONNECTICUT:

Denver is 6-0 all-time vs. the Huskies, winning the previous meetings at Peter Barton in 2008 and 2017. A year ago, the Pioneers and Huskies met three times. The first was a 14-13 triple overtime game in Storrs. Two days later, the Pioneers defeated UConn 11-7. In the BIG EAST Championship Game, the Pioneers scored the final five goals to win 13-7.

  • Abby Jenkins became the 12th Pioneer in program history to pick up 100 draw controls in a career.
    • Jenkins is one draw controls away from eighth place in Denver's single-season history (currently at 59).
    • Jenkins' nine draw controls at San Diego State on March 27 tied for the 10th most in a game in Denver's DI history.
    • Jenkins' 114 career draw controls is four behind Steph Greenless for ninth in Denver's DI history.
  • Big East Defensive Player of the Week Sam Thacker has 40 caused turnovers on the season, three behind Layne Voorhees 2017 campaign for third in Denver's DI history.
    • Thacker's 88 caused turnovers is three behind Crystal Jack's 91 for seventh in program history.
  • Bea Behrins has 170 goals, 17 off Steph Greenlees' 187 for third in program history.
    • Behrins 216 career points is 15 points behind Greenlees' 231 for sixth in DU's DI history.
