DENVER – The Colorado Eagles announced on Wednesday that the club has signed University of Denver hockey alum
Cameron Wright to an American Hockey League contract for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Wright is also eligible to play in the ECHL with the Utah Grizzlies
Wright helped the Pioneers capture the NCAA National Championship during the 2021-22 campaign after spending the previous four seasons with Bowling Green State University. The forward recorded a career-high 34 points in 41 games last year while tying for the team lead with 23 goals. It was the most goals scored by an NCAA player that transferred during summer 2021 and ranked tied for fourth overall in the country.
The Newmarket, Ontario, native recorded four points (three goals, one assist) in four 2022 national tournament games for DU. He scored the game-winning goal in the NCAA West Regional semifinals versus UMass Lowell on March 24, tallied against Michigan in the Frozen Four on April 7 and had two points (one goal, one assist) in the NCAA title game versus Minnesota State on April 9.
Prior to joining Denver, Wright registered 101 points (51 goals, 50 assists) at Bowling Green where he was twice named a WCHA Scholar Athlete and made the conference's All-Academic Team in three seasons.
The 23-year-old finished his five-year collegiate career with 135 points (74 goals, 61 assists) in 185 career contests, tied for the second-most games played in division-I history.
The Eagles are the AHL affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche. Wright attended the Avalanche's development camp earlier this month as an invitee.
