COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado – The University of Denver women's tennis team advanced three student-athletes to the singles semifinals on Friday in the Bedford Cup hosted by the Air Force Academy.
 
Fifth-year student Taylor Melville advanced to the semifinals of the Alpha Draw after victories over New Mexico State's Lisa Zhu in the round of 16 and Air Force's Sydney Fitch in the quarterfinals.
 
Sophomore Andrea Burguete Beltran and freshman Caroline Driscoll added two more wins a piece, both in the Bravo Draw. Burguete Beltran topped Idaho's Rachelle Starreveld in the roud of 16 and then New Mexico State's Natsuki Nishimura in the quarterfinals. Driscoll had wins over Idaho State's Sol O'Lideadha in the round of 16 and BYU's Wing Ka Lin in the quarterfinals.
 
Senior Britt Pursell and freshmen Anastasia Simonov and Claudia Martinez de Velasco fell in their round of 16 singles matches. Pursell lost to Boise State's Pauline Ernstberger in the Alpha Draw. Simonov and Martinez de Velasco both dropped their round of 16 matches in the Charlie Draw to Boise State's Shauna Heffernan and Colorado State's Ky Ecton, respectively.
 
In doubles, Melville and Pursell dropped their quarterfinal match to Fitch and Alexis Odom from Air Force in the Alpha Draw.
