SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Denver women's tennis team advanced all four of its main-draw singles players and its three main-draw doubles teams at the first day of the 2023 ITA Mountain Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Utah, on Wednesday.
 
One of the day's highlights came from sophomore Anastasia Simonov, who upset the No. 3 seed with a late break in the third set to begin play in the singles main draw. DU also collected straight-sets wins from No. 7-seeded graduate student Britt Pursell and No. 10-seeded sophomore Caroline Driscoll while junior and No. 8 seed Andrea Burguete Beltran advanced after her opponent withdrew due to injury.
 
Denver's three doubles teams all advanced into the round of 16. In the singles "B" draw, sophomore Claudia Martinez de Velasco added a fifth singles win for DU on Day 1, securing her victory with a bagel in the third set.
 
The 2023 ITA Mountain Regional Championships continues on Thursday with two rounds of singles and the doubles round of 32.
