Box Score IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Denver women's tennis team dropped its first road match of the 2023 season, falling 6-2 to Iowa on Friday.
Doubles:
Denver nearly leveled up its No. 1 and No. 3 doubles matches with Iowa serving for the match at 5-3 on both courts. DU forced the games to deuce, but both teams lost the deciding deuce point.

Taylor Melville and freshman
Claudia Martinez de Velasco was on serve 4-3 when the match was ended after Iowa won the doubles point.
Singles:
Martinez de Velasco started singles play with a quick win on Court 6, dropping only three games after posting a bagel in the first set. She started with a fast break in set two only to get back on serve at 3-3 before rattling off three straight games to win in straight sets.
Senior
Britt Pursell traded breaks in the first set before earning her second break to win 6-4 before dropping the second set 7-5. She broke in her first return game of the third set and added an insurance break to finish with a 6-1 win.
Freshman
Caroline Driscoll, too, found herself in a third set, winning the first set but losing the next two sets. Denver's remaining three singles matches all ended in straight-set wins for Iowa.
