DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team has signed
Alice Otis for the upcoming 2023-24 season, head coach
Paul Wardlaw announced on Wednesday.
Otis joins Denver after spending her freshman season at the University of South Carolina in 2022-23. The Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, native claimed four singles wins and three doubles victories during her first collegiate season. She primarily played at No. 6 singles for South Caroline while splitting time between No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
Prior to beginning her collegiate career, Otis was a five-star recruit, according to tennisrecruiting.net, and achieved a No. 25 ranking in her recruiting class. In 2019, she won the doubles title at the USTA National Winter Championships (girls 14 division), a year after finishing as the runner-up in doubles.
Denver is coming off a 2022-23 season that saw the Pioneers win the Summit League championship and advance to the NCAA National Championships, each for a ninth-straight season. The team finished with a final ITA national ranking of No. 53.
Otis will be one of two new student-athletes for Denver's 2023-24 roster, joining incoming freshman
Karsyn Evans.
DU will return six of its seven student-athletes from its 2022-23 roster to the 2023-24 roster, including rising graduate student
Britt Pursell and rising junior
Andrea Burguete Beltran, who were both ranked in the top 10 in the final ITA Mountain Regional singles rankings.
