Getting To Know Triathlon: Coco Diemar

Sophomore won age-group national championships in triathlon and cycling as a kid

Coco Diemar is in her second season on the Denver Pioneers triathlon team and has been competing in the sport for 14 years.
 
From Eagle, Colorado, competing in triathlons runs in her family as both of her parents are triathletes and her older sister, Hayley, raced collegiately as well at the University of San Francisco. Coco won age-group national championships as a kid in triathlon and cycling and was featured in Sports Illustrated's Faces in the Crowd.
 
Prior to DU, she attended prep school at Holderness in New Hampshire where she was a captain of her school's cross country running, cycling and Nordic ski teams.
 
Diemar came in ninth at the 2022 Cal Bearathlon and represented the Pioneers at the 2022 Collegiate National Championships, helping the squad to a third-place finish.
 
Why did you choose DU?
 
"For the academic and athletic opportunities the school offers."
 
Why Triathlon?
 
"I have been competing in triathlons since 2009 and since then have fell in love with the sport and have continued to compete."
 
How did you get involved in Triathlon?
 
"Both of my parents did triathlons. So when there was a local one when I was younger, I raced in that have continued to race ever since then."
 
What are your plans after college?
 
"To get a job in hospitality or own my own business one day."
 
Where is your favorite training area?
 
"My hometown in Eagle, Colorado."
 
Do you have a pre-race/training routine?
 
"I listen to music during warmup to drown out everything going on around me."
 
What are your goals for this season?
 
"To help my team achieve our best finishes at NCAA nationals."
 
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra?
 
"When you get tired, learn to rest, not quit" - Banksy
 
What are some of your favorite hangout spots in Colorado?
 
"Red Rocks, Vail and the Colorado River."
 
What is your favorite sport to watch?
 
"Hockey or Nordic skiing"
 
What kind of music do you like?
 
"I like a little bit of everything. It depends on my mood."
 
What are your favorite movies and TV shows?
 
"10 Things I Hate About You, The O.C. and Friends.
 
What is something that other people might not know about you?
 
"Before college I attended nine different schools and have lived in four different states."
