Andrea Burguete Beltran and
Marley Lambert won their first match of the day before falling to the No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals at the 2024 ITA Conference Masters Championships on Friday.
The duo overcame a slow start to their day to win their round of 16 match in straight sets. After surrendering a break in the opening game and eventually facing a 1-4 deficit, Burguete Beltran/Lambert began a fight back to led them to a tiebreaker. The claimed the first minibreak for a 4-2 lead at the changeover before closing it on their second set point for 7-4.
They carried momentum into the second set breaking in their first two return games and getting to a 5-1 lead. Cosmo/Ushio started their own comeback to get back within a break, but Burguete Beltran/Lambert were able to serve it out at 6-4.
A little less than two hours later, they retook the court for a quarterfinal match against the No. 1-seeded team from Vanderbilt. Burguete Beltran/Lambert broke to begin the match, the first of five breaks in the first six games. Mohr/Webster retook a break lead for 5-3 before holding to take the set.
The second set, too, saw multiple breaks for both teams. Vanderbilt jumped out to a two-break lead at 3-0, but Burguete Beltran/Lambert got one break back in the fourth game. Mohr/Webster answered with a rebreak as part of a three-game win streak to close out the match.
Elsewhere in Denver women's tennis action on Friday, four more Pioneers kicked off the Colorado Cup at Denver Tennis Park.
