Denver to welcome San Jose State, Lindenwood, Air Force on March 3

WHO: No. 11 Denver vs. San Jose State, Lindenwood, Air Force
WHAT: DU's final home meet of 2024 and Senior Sunday
WHERE: Magness Arena (Denver, Colorado)
WHEN: Sunday, March 3, 1:45 p.m. MT
DOORS: Open at 12:30 p.m. MT

MEET PROMOTIONS:
Sunday marks Denver's final home meet of the 2024 season. The team will celebrate Senior Sunday to recognize its senior class of Rosie Casali, Jessica Hutchinson, Bella Mabanta, Rylie Mundell and Abbie Thompson.

Sunday's meet is also Denver's annual Fan Appreciation Day featuring giveaways and prizes. To celebrate, DU will also host its annual Carnival on the Concourse with t-shirt designing, face painting/tattoos with Denver Cheer, a photo station, yard games and more. Doors will open early at 12:30 p.m. MT to allow fans more time to enjoy the carnival.

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver wrapped up February with a Big 12 Conference meet at BYU on February 23, coming away with a 196.900-196.500 win despite resting multiple student-athletes in the competition, including Hutchinson on all four events. Freshman Madison Ulrich won her first all-around title while adding a second-straight win on bars. She shared the floor title with Casali, extending DU's win streak on the event through every meet so far this season. Junior Momoko Iwai won a share of the beam title with a career-high-tying 9.950.

EYE ON THE RANKINGS:
DU came in at No. 11 in the first NQS rankings of the season with an NQS of 197.270, the highest initial NQS in program history and already the fourth-highest overall in program history. Denver's first NQSs on vault, bars and floor are also program records for initial NQSs and helped the team rank among the top 15 on all four events including No. 4 nationally on bars.

Hutchinson is ranked No. 8 in the all-around and in the top 25 on three events despite not competing last week on the road. Mundell continues to be ranked on bars as she has been all season, and Ulrich reached her best national ranking yet at No. 19 in the all-around.

QUICK HITS:
  • DU will honor its senior class in a post-meet ceremony on Sunday, and fans are encouraged to stick around after awards to honor Casali, Hutchinson, Mabanta, Mundell and Thompson, who will sign autographs after the meet as well.
    • As a class, the five seniors won the 2021 Big 12 Championship and DU's second NCAA Regional Championship in 2023.
    • They have combined for 568 routines competed entering Sunday's competition and own 18 combined career highs of at least 9.900 (12 at the 9.950+ mark).
  • DU is on track to set all-time records for total and average home attendance in a season on Sunday.
    • Denver has already welcomed 19,546 fans for an average of 4,887 through its first four home meets and is projected to top the current regular-season records of 21,171 and 4,234, respectively, both set in 2023.
  • Denver is building toward its full-strength lineups in time for the postseason and may continue to rest student-athletes on select events. Exact lineups for the competition have not yet been determined.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS:
San Jose State will compete twice this weekend, first at Air Force on Friday night before both teams make the trip to Denver on Sunday. SJSU is coming off a season-best 196.600 at UC Davis on February 25 and is led by seniors Lauren Macpherson and Jada Mazury, the team's NQS leaders in the all-around and beam (Macpherson), and bars and floor (Mazury). Madison Kirsch owns the team's top vault NQS.

Sunday will be the second meeting between Denver and San Jose State this year after the teams competed together at the Super 16 in Las Vegas for the season opener (DU winning the session with a 196.850 and SJSU placing fourth with a 194.950). The Spartans last competed in Denver in the 2022 season opener on January 9 (a 197.000-195.950 win for DU).

SCOUTING THE LIONS:
Lindenwood is coming off a bye week, last competing at the Mizzou to the Lou meet in St. Charles, Missouri, on February 16 and placing fourth with a 194.825. Jaly Jones leads the team's three all-arounders by average score while Hannah Appleget owns LU's top average on bars and beam. Tiffany Caffey and Gayla Griswold have the top vault and floor averages, respectively.

This will be just the third meeting between Denver and Lindenwood with the teams most recently meeting in an Oklahoma quad meet on February 26, 2021 (a 196.975-191.625 win for DU over the Lions). Denver hosted Lindenwood in its first-ever meet on January 5, 2013, which DU won, 194.700-185.925.

Freshman Maggie Slife is already making a name for herself with a 39.300 average in the all-around and top average scores for the Falcons and on vault, beam and floor. Ayla McKean leads the team on bars.

AFA is Denver's most common opponent with Sunday being the 113th all-time meeting between the teams. They met three times last season, most recently at a Nebraska tri meet where DU placed first (197.275) and Air Force was third (193.975). DU also hosted AFA on February 5, 2023, in a 197.500-192.475 Denver win.
