[14/15] Denver Returns Home Against [RV] Stanford Cardinal

DENVER - The No. 14 Denver Pioneers women's lacrosse team returns to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium with a matchup against the Stanford Cardinal on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT.

The Pioneers have a 15-18 record against the Cardinal, in their last meeting Denver defeated Stanford, 15-8, at home on Petey B.

THE LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers defeated Stony Brook, 8-7, on Monday afternoon in New York. Jane Earley scored the game-winning goal with just 14 seconds remaining in regulation to end the Seawolves' 36-game home winning streak. Julia Gilbert led the Pioneers' offensive effort with four goals, her sixth multi-goal game of the season. Goalkeeper Emelia Bohi made six saves for Denver.

SCOUTING THE CARDINAL: Stanford is on a two-game Colorado roadtrip with matchups against [19] Colorado and [14] Denver this weekend. The Cardinal are 4-2 on the season, with its most recent victory coming over Army, 17-8.  Four all-conference selections from a year ago return to the Stanford roster this season, including Annabel Frist and Ailish Kelly who were first team All-Pac-12 members. Sarah Jaques and Jay Browne, who were each named second team All-Pac-12 selections in 2023. Frist is the reigning Pac-12 draw specialist of the year. Goalkeeper Lucy Pearson has appeared in net six times this season and owns a .397 save percentage and 9.02 goals against average. 

SISTER SHOWDOWN: Graduate defender Trinity McPherson and her sister Madison will be facing off for the first time in their collegiate careers on Sunday afternoon. The pair spent two seasons together at Johns Hopkins before Trinity arrived in Denver and Madison switched coasts to play for Stanford. Both sisters lead the defensive efforts for their respective teams. 

TEWAARATON WATCH LIST: The Pioneers have four players on the watch list for the 2024 Tewaaraton Award, given to the top collegiate player in the country. Attackers Julia GIlbert and Jane Earley and defenders Trinity McPherson and Sam Thacker were all named to the initial watch list. 

CAPTAINING THE SHIP: Denver's captains this season include redshirt Junior Reagan Wilson, Seniors Sloane Kipp and Anna Palmisano and Graduate Students Sam Thacker and Julia Gilbert.
