DENVER – University of Denver men's tennis player
Daniel Sancho Arbizu was named the TicketSmarter Summit League Peak Performer of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The DU junior won both of his matches in Denver's 5-2 win at Air Force on March 16, helping keep DU's undefeated start to the 2024 season alive at 14-0. Sancho Arbizu started with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles with partner
Marvin Schaber, allowing DU to win the doubles point for a seventh-consecutive match.
After retiring in his last singles match, the Zaragoza, Spain, native got back in the win column in singles with a straight-sets victory at No. 3 singles and putting DU within a point of the win at AFA.
This is the first Summit League Peak Performer of the Week award of the season for Sancho Arbizu and the fourth of his career. DU players have now accounted for seven of the 10 awards from the Summit League this year and four in a row. Senior
Nicolas Herrero Cuesta won three in a row from January 30 – February 13 while three more Pioneers have done so once apiece: sophomore
Raffaello Papajcik on February 27, senior
Charlie Miller on March 5, and Schaber on March 12.
The No. 37-ranked University of Denver men's tennis team (14-0, 0-0 Summit) wraps up a three-match road trip at Cal Poly on Sunday, March 24, before hosting Nevada on Tuesday, March 26.
