DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team (11-6, 3-0 Summit) is ranked No. 49 in the ITA Computerized Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, released on Tuesday.
Denver is coming off a tight battle at now-No. 48 Charlotte, narrowly dropping the match, 4-3. The following day, a shorthanded Pioneers squad fell to Wichita State in a neutral-site match when DU was forced to play with just five student-athletes.
So far this year, DU has wins over three currently ranked teams: No. 45 Utah, No. 61 Oregon nd No. 75 Iowa.
Denver No. 1 doubles team of graduate student
Britt Pursell and junior
Andrea Burguete Beltran are nationally ranked for the first time, entering the rankings at No. 62. Together, they are 9-3 in dual matches this season and have won five matches in a row including a 6-3 upset win over Charlotte's then-No. 37 Quiterio/Teixido Garcia on March 15. They also logged a 6-2 win against then-No. 60 Johnson/Mavor from SMU earlier this season on February 26.
Pursell/Beltran are the first DU doubles duo to hold a national ranking since Pursell was ranked for two weeks in 2021 with her partner Camille Verden-Anderson.
The ITA Division I Women's Collegiate Tennis Rankings recognize the top 75 teams (out of 311), 125 singles players and 60 doubles teams at the NCAA Division I level.
The University of Denver women's tennis team is off for the week before hosting North Dakota in a Summit League match on Saturday, March 30, at Denver Tennis Park.
