Pioneers Earns Fifth Consecutive Big East Regular Season Title with Win over Villanova

Box Score DENVER- After trailing by four at the half, the [12/14] University of Denver women's lacrosse team came storming back to defeat the Villanova Wildcats, 11-8 on a sunny afternoon in Villanova, Pennsylvania.  
 
KEY PERFORMANCES:

Lauren Black and Sloane Kipp led Denver offensively with three goals each while graduate student attackers Julia Gilbert and Olivia Penoyer each had four-point performances. Gilbert with a pair of goals and two assists and Penoyer netted a goal and three helpers.
 
Ryan Dineen and Jane Earley rounded out Denver's goal scorers and Caroline Colimore netted a helper on Gilbert's goal with 52 seconds remaining in the game.
 
On the defensive end, four different Pioneers recorded a pair of caused turnovers – Anna Palmisano, Trinity McPherson, Megan Klingenberg and Caroline Colimore. McPherson had another huge day for Denver, adding six draw controls and picking up ground balls. Palmisano added a career-high five grounders.
 
Black added four draw controls and Abby Jenkins grabbed two wins from the circle.
 
NOTES:
  • Gilbert extended her team-high point streak to 37 games, posting 120 points on 102 goals and 18 assists in that span.
  • Anna Palmisano earned a career-high five ground balls, her previous record, 4 was against Michigan on March 1, 2023.
  • Olivia Penoyer recorded her ninth game this season with 3+ assists and is now tied for eighth in the Denver record book with 39 assists in a single season.
  • The Pioneers held the Wildcats to only two shots on goal in the final frame of play.
  • Denver had double-digit (11) caused turnovers for the 11th time this season.
  • The Crimson and Gold earned a 10-2 advantage in the circle in the second half.
