DENVER – The University of Denver triathlon team has added
Beatrice Normand to its roster for the upcoming 2024 fall regular season.
The incoming freshman joins the Pioneers after previous comping with club team's Tri-O-Lac and Voltiqeurs in her native Quebec, Canada. Also a member of Triathlon Quebec, Normand was named the 2023 Quebec Junior Athlete of the Year and 2023 National Development Series overall winner.
"I chose the University of Denver because of the beautiful city that it is, the beautiful hiking spots surrounding the school, it has the incredible program that I want to study in and, most importantly, they have an extraordinary triathlon team," said
Normand. "When I went on my official visit, I fell in love with the place and the people."
From Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec, Normand was named the athlete of the year with Voltigeur for five consecutive seasons (2020-2024). She debuted on the Americas Triathlon circuit by coming in 12th in the Pan American Junior Championships on Oct. 29, 2022 before bettering that performance the following spring with an eighth-place finish in the North American Junior Championships in Sarasota, Florida, on March 11, 2023.
Normand placed 11th at the 2023 Junior World Championship Qualifier in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, earning a qualification spot for the Junior World Championships where she finished 54th in Hamburg, Germany, in July 2023 (2023 World Triathlon Sprint and Relay Championships). At the 2023 Canadian Junior National Championships, Normand won the final event of the season's Grand Prix Series in Quebec. She also finished seventh in both sprint and super sprint races at the 2022 Canada Games and later won the sprint and time trial at the 2022 Quebec Games.
The Canadian opened the 2024 spring season by earning bronze in the junior race at the Americas Triathlon Championships in Miami on March 8 and made her debut as an elite athlete on July 14 by coming in 19th in the Americas Triathlon Cup in Magog, Quebec. She also won the draft-legal elite East Coast Triathlon Festival Junior National Series in May 2024 in Virginia.
The daughter of Denis Normand and Marie-France Beaumont, Normand has a younger sister, Selena, while her older sister, Clara, is set to be a senior on the DU triathlon team as well. In addition to triathlon, she swam for Voltigeur and Citadins and also ran cross country where she won regionals and finished second in the provincial championships last fall. She graduated high school from College Bourget in spring 2024.
