DU Women’s Tennis Captures Three Individual Titles at Bedford Cup

Burguete Beltran, Lambert win top two singles crowns; Bečirovič Novak/Cinková add doubles victory

Box Score COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The University of Denver women's tennis team won its fourth consecutive Bedford Cup team title while adding three more individual victories on the final day of the Bedford Cup in the Mountains, hosted by the Air Force Academy, on Sunday.

Senior Andrea Burguete Beltran won her second-straight Alpha Draw singles title, winning the all-Denver battle over junior Claudia Martinez de Velasco. With the victory, she extended Denver's streak of winning the top singles draw at the Bedford Cup to four years (Burguete Beltran: 2023, 2024; Taylor Melville: 2022; Anna Riedmiller: 2021).

In her first tournament as a Pioneer, junior Marley Lambert claimed the Bravo Draw singles title in straight sets, joining recent DU grad Britt Pursell (2021) in winning that title at the Bedford Cup.

Denver's third title of the day came from the doubles team of junior Hana Bečirovič Novak and freshman Natálie Cinková, who used a single break to win the Red Draw, 8-6. They became just the second DU team to win a Bedford Cup doubles title and the first since Riedmiller and Tatum Burger won an all-DU Alpha Draw final in 2021.

Burguete Beltran and junior Louise Wikander also appeared in a doubles final on Sunday but lost, 6-8, in the Alpha Draw.

Elsewhere in singles play on Sunday, Wikander withdrew from her third-place match in the Alpha Draw. Bečirovič Novak won a third-set tiebreak in her Bravo Draw consolation match, and Cinková lost just a single game in her consolation match in the Delta Draw – doing so against the draw's No. 2 seed.

Lambert/Martinez de Velasco captured one final Denver win with a late break in a doubles consolation match in the Blue Draw.

Next up for the Pioneers this fall will be Burguete Beltran playing in the 2014 ITA All-American Championships, beginning on September 21. The team resumes play on October 4-6 at the Husky Invite, hosted by the University of Washington.
