CARY, N.C. – University of Denver senior and women's tennis player
Andrea Burguete Beltran moved on at the 2024 ITA All-American Championships, winning a three-set battle in her opening match of the pre-qualifying draw on Saturday.
The Burriana, Spain, native claimed the 2-6 6-1 7-6(0) victory over South Carolina's Olympe Lancelot to advance into the round of 64 on Sunday. Lancelot opened up a 5-2 lead in the third set before Burguete Beltran stormed back to force the breaker.
After dropping the first set, Burguete Beltran responded with a dominant second set. She started by winning 21 of the first 25 points in the set including converting both her break point opportunities. The toughest game of the set was what would be the final one where Burguete Beltran won the deuce point to seal the set and stave off the only break point she faced on serve.
Both players held relatively easily to begin the third set before Lancelot opened up a 3-1 lead. Burguete Beltran got back on serve with a break in the next game, though her opponent reclaimed the break lead in the sixth game.
Serving to stay in the match, the DU senior was down 0-30 before rattling off four straight points to force Lancelot to attempt to serve it out at 5-3, where Burguete Beltran broke at love. Both players battled in their final service games, but the set eventually headed to a tiebreak that Burguete Beltran claimed without dropping a point.
Burguete Beltran will next play Imogen Haddad from USC on Sunday, September 22, at 10:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. MT. Haddad won her opening match with two 6-4 sets on Saturday.
