FORT WORTH, Texas – Junior
Maira Carreau led the Denver Pioneers women's triathlon team on Sunday with a sixth-place finish at the 2025 Western Regional Championships at Marine Creek Reservoir.
The La Prairie, Quebec, native picked up her 11th top-10 result in 13 career races and her third in as many years at the regional championships. She clocked in at 1:03:48.96 and just missed out on fifth place as Arizona's Ruth Pardy took the sprint to the finish line (1:03:48.27).
Carreau was about 27 seconds behind the leaders out of the water with the fifth-fastest swim time (10:00) and stayed near the front for the entire race. She posted the 12th-fastest bike split (33:49) and produced the fifth-quickest 5K run in 18:22.
Denver finished fourth in the team standings with 365 points, just one point behind South Dakota in third place (366).

University of Arizona won the team title at Western Regionals after sweeping the scoring—all five of their scorers finished in the top five to earn 450 points. WHAT'S NEXT: The culmination of the 2025 season is in less than two weeks at the Collegiate National Championships in Tempe, Arizona. Arizona State is hosting at Tempe Town Lake on Saturday, Nov. 8.
THE COURSE: Starting with a one-lap triangular swim of 750 meters in the reservoir, the athletes left the water from the east side of the lake and had to run up a hill to transition. The 20K bike course was four laps through adjacent Tarrant County College and along Marine Creek Parkway, featuring several technical portions that were narrow with tight turns. The 5K run was on a two-lap course on the campus that ran parallel to most of the bike route.
WEATHER: The air temperature at the 11:20 a.m. CT start was 68 degrees Fahrenheit with partly cloudy skies.
