Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of Denver women's lacrosse found its rhythm in the 21-12 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils with seven players with multi-goal games on Friday afternoon in San Diego, California.
The Sun Devils jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Pioneers 5-2 in the first frame of play. Denver was quick to answer in the second quarter, scoring six unanswered goals, led by a pair of goals by sophomore attacker
Olivia Ripple. The DU offense showed no signs of slowing down with goals from
Lauren Black,
Raegan Wilson,
Caroline Colimore,
Caroline Bowers and
Eva Thomsen-Marr to take a 9-7 lead into halftime.
Arizona State attempted a comeback in the second half with back to back goals but the Pioneers were quick to respond with goals of their own. DU scored eight unanswered goals in the final frame and allowed just three shots on goals from ASU.
KEY PERFORMANCES:
Black led the way for the Pioneers offensively with her second career sock trick. Ripple and Bowers each earned a hat trick, the first of Bower's career, while Dineen, Colimore and Thomsen-Marr each recorded a pair of goals. Wilson had another season-high day with two goals and four helpers.
In the circle, Colimore picked up a career-high eight draw wins while
Alex Dorr tacked on a career-best seven.
On the defensive end,
Sarah Pokorny caused three turnovers and two ground balls.
Maddie Montgomery added a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover.
