Denver Women’s Tennis Opens Summit League Play on Saturday, Sunday

DU hosts Kansas City on March 1, Omaha on March 2 in penultimate weekend of six-match homestand

DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team begins Summit League play with two matches at home on March 1-2.

Denver will start the weekend when it hosts Kansas City on Saturday, March 1, at 1:30 p.m. MT and will then host Omaha on Sunday, March 2, at 10 a.m. MT.

Admission is free for fans all season long at Denver Tennis Park.

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver earned its third sweep of the year – and it's first at 7-0 – with its win over Montana State at home on February 21. DU only dropped one match all day – the No. 1 doubles contest, which came down to a tiebreak and was finished after DU had already clinched the point – and won four of the singles matches in straight sets. Juniors Claudia Martinez de Velasco and Marley Lambert ensured the Denver sweep with victories in 10-point match tiebreaks.

Martinez de Velasco and her doubles partner, fellow junior Louise Wikander collected the Summit League's doubles team of the week award following their 6-2 win against MSU, which moved them to a team-best 8-1 record in 2025 so far.

SERIES HISTORY:
Kansas City: Denver is 5-0 against Kansas City and has lost only two points to the Roos over those five matches – one of them being a walkover in singles last season. In their 2024 regular-season meeting (on April 6), DU captured a 6-1 win on the road. The Roos last played in Denver on April 1, 2023, in a 7-0 sweep for DU.

Omaha: DU holds a 13-0 record against Omaha and again has only dropped a single point to the Mavericks. That one point came in the teams' last meeting on March 9, 2024, in Omaha in a 10-point match tiebreak at No. 3 singles. Prior to that, DU had logged 12 consecutive sweeps including a 7-0 finish the last time the teams played in Denver on March 4, 2023. DU and Omaha also met in the 2024 Summit League semifinals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, which saw Denver post a 4-0 sweep to advance to the tournament championship match.

UP NEXT:
The University of Denver women's tennis team hosts its final regular-season home match of the year on Saturday, March 8, against another Summit League opponent in St. Thomas. DU will celebrate senior Andrea Burguete Beltran for Senior Day after the match as well.
