CLERMONT, Fla. – The Denver Pioneers women's triathlon team had two individual wins on Sunday morning on the final day of the 2025 Clermont Challenge at Lake Louis State Park. Sophomore
Maira Carreau won the under-25 elite development race while junior
Elizabeth Harita finished first in the NCAA super sprint for her first career victory.
Carreau picked up her second podium in as many days in the Clermont Challenge EDR events after placing second behind teammate
Alex Campbell in Saturday's race. On Sunday, the La Prairie, Quebec, native was 12 seconds off the lead out of the water (10:36), stayed near the front with a 31:52 bike split in the 20-kilometer ride and then pulled out to the No. 1 position on the 5K run.
She finished the run in 17:59, her second sub-18-minute run of the weekend after posting a time of 17:43 in Saturday's race. Carreau ended up 40 seconds ahead of Eli Walz in second place (1:03:16).
Harita finished the NCAA super sprint in 32:57, which included posting her fastest collegiate 2.5K run at 9:35. The Anaheim, California, native was part of the second pack out of the water, went to the front with the fastest 10K bike split at 16:13 before her PR run. She beat out Wingate's Grace Nolan (32:57) in second place by 24 seconds.
The win marked Harita's third time on the collegiate podium as she placed second at the 2022 Bearathlon and third in her Pioneer debut at the 2022 Southern Hills Triathlon.
Denver also had two 2025 incoming freshmen compete in the elite development race on Sunday, as
Lucrezia Gowdy was 11th (1:05:11) and
Jenna Toppot was 20th (1:06:48).
With Campbell's win in Saturday's EDR sprint race, the Pioneers had an individual victory in each of the three events they took part in at the 2025 Clermont Challenge.
DU has raced in Clermont in each season since its inaugural campaign in 2021.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Pioneers continue their spring season later this month at the Americas Triathlon Cup Miami at Homestead Miami Speedway on March 28.
THE COURSE: The course was the same as Saturday, though the NCAA super sprint did half the laps and only a 375-meter swim. The swim was a one-lap, lollipop course around buoys before the athletes ran from the beach to the dock and into to transition. The bike course for the EDR race was a four-lap loop on Lake Louisa State Park's main road that featured several hills and a 180-degree turnaround. The run in the full sprint run was a two-lap out-and-back that followed the same course as the bike.
WEATHER: Sunny conditions where throughout the morning, with the air temperature at the 8 a.m. ET start time for the EDR race being 60 degrees Fahrenheit while the 11 a.m. ET start for the NCAA super sprint was 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
