DENVER – The No. 21/6 University of Denver men's soccer team went ahead twice in the opening 45 minutes, but a pair of No. -/25 San Diego penalties, including the game-winner, proved the difference on Thursday night in a 3-2 Toreros win at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium.
Scoring Summary:
[21] Denver: King 5' (Olsson), Collins (Kelly, Schultz)
San Diego: Duus 37' (pen), 56' (pen), Walz 45' (Dillon, Antwl)
Notes

- Freshman Erik Collins scored his first career goal later in the first half.
- Holger OIsson played the first corner kick service of the night to earn his first assist of the season and the sixth of his career.

First Half:
5' After a couple early San Diego shots that were off target, Holger Olsson had Denver's first shot of the night blocked in-front and out for a corner. Olsson played the set piece to the center of the area, and it was redshirt-freshman Will King that ran on to it to head home his first career goal.
21' Senior goalkeeper
Isaac Nehme was called upon to make his first save of the night, a quick dive to his right on a shot from in close. Denver's defense cleared the danger to keep the Pioneers in-front.
37' After
Keegan Kelly was knocked down away from the play, San Diego earned a free kick in the attacking half. The Toreros free kick led to a foul in the penalty area and the Toreros converted from the spot to level things at 1-1.
41' The Pioneers quickly responded with another first-career goal, this time from freshman
Erik Collins, who fired-home his strike from the left-side of the area inside the near post.
Keegan Kelly and
Luke Schultz earned assists on Collins' goal that put that Pioneers back in-front.
44' Kelly appeared to make it 3-1, but it was ruled out for the goalkeeper having possession before Kelly played the ball. Schultz won a header in the area. The San Diego keeper was first to the ball before he spilled it and Kelly got a foot on it to knock it past the keeper and setup his own tap-in into an empty net, but the assistant referee flag's went up for goalkeeper possession, and the goal was ruled out.
45' San Diego quickly countered the other way and scored on a bouncing ball in the box to level things once more just 12 seconds before the intermission.
Second Half:
53' On a bouncing ball in the box, Trevor Wright was whistled for a hand ball in the box, and Duus Muller converted from the spot once more to put the visitors ahead 3-2.
61' Schultz nearly had the response Denver was looking for, but his show was saved and the danger cleared.
81' Holger Olsson had Denver's best attempt at an equalizer came from the top of the box, but his shot was saved. The recycled ball was played into the area and Kelly appeared to win it before being undercut in the area, but play continued.
