DU set for first of three consecutive matches against Big 12 Conference opponents

LAST TIME OUT:
Denver used two goals on each side of halftime to post a 4-1 win against Southern Utah on August 31. Four different Pioneers scored in the match with redshirt sophomore Shay Payne netting the game winner in the 29th minute with the first goal of her career. Junior Alanna Raimondo opened the scoring in the fifth minute, posting her first goal as a Pioneer.
Senior Isabella Chidiac had the assist on both of DU's second-half goals, first with redshirt junior Emma Thielbahr off a 68th-minute corner kick and then with a feed to freshman Lilly Lund in the 86th minute for Lund's first collegiate goal.
QUICK HITS:
This will be the fifth meeting between Denver and Arizona, and the first since November 9, 2018, when DU traveled to Tucson in a 3-0 Arizona win. DU also played at Arizona in Denver's first season as an NCAA Division I program in 1998, falling to the Wildcats, 1-3. The Pioneers captured a 3-0 shutout of Arizona in the teams' only meeting in Denver on October 5, 2001.
Arizona is coming off 1-2 loss at former Pac-12 Conference opponent California on August 31. The Golden Bears held a 2-0 lead at halftime before Arizona's Lily Boydstun pulled one back in the 59th minute.
Through the first month of the season, a trio of Wildcats lead the team with two goals apiece: Boydstun, Aurora Gaines and Jessica Bedolla. Boydstun is also one of three Arizona players with two assists on the year, joining Sami Baytosh and Rose Calkins. Olivia Ramey has started in goal in all five matches, and Sofia Cortes-Browne played 17 minutes against Stanford.

Denver remains in the state of Arizona for the weekend before playing its non-conference road finale at Arizona State on Sunday, September 7, at 10 a.m. MST/11 a.m. MDT.
DU returns home next week for its final two non-conference matches to host in-state rivals Colorado and Colorado State on September 11 and 14, respectively. Kickoff against CU is set for 7 p.m. MT on the 11th while DU and CSU will play in the first match of a Denver Soccer doubleheader at 12 p.m. on the 14th.

- With redshirt freshman Grace Dreiling making her collegiate debut against SUU, all but six DU student-athletes on the roster have seen minutes in 2025. Two of the six not to play are goalkeepers.
- Denver's next three matches all feature an opponent from the Big 12 Conference. DU will play at Arizona State on Sunday, September 7, before Denver hosts Colorado on Thursday, September 11.
- Overall, DU's non-conference schedule features five Power-Four opponents. So far, DU posted a 0-0 draw against Baylor in a neutral-site match on August 21; and the Pioneers led a shorthanded Texas A&M, 1-0, in the 68th minute at home on August 28 when the match was declared a no contest due to weather delay.
- DU is 1-1-1 in its last three completed matches against Power-Four teams including the draw against Baylor this year.
