Sept. 21, 2014 MSOC v Portland (21 SEP 14) - Highlights
Box Score
DENVER- On a rainy Sunday evening at CIBER Field, Denver got a goal in each half, sandwhiched around a Portland penalty, to give the Pioneers their fifth-straight home win, 2-1. Denver has won 11 consecutive home games dating back to last season.
The Pioneers attacked early and often in the first half having nine shots taken, where Portland only had one shot. One of Denver's shots in the first half found the back of the net. Eric Kronenberg scored his team leading fifth goal off a corner kick from Brian Hoyt.
The Pilots went on to tie up the score in the 75th minute on a penalty kick by Portland's Eddie Sanchez. After the penalty kick the Pioneers took action right away. Kyle Emerson scored just 44 seconds after Portland's equalizer. Reid Hukari and A.J. Fuller picked up the assists on Emerson's goal.
Emerson's first goal of the season turned out to be the difference in the game. The match featured physical play with a combined total of 28 fouls with three yellow cards that went against Portland.
Bobby Muuss was happy with the win but sees areas his team can improve, "we have to find a way to put a good team, like Portland, away".
Pioneers begin Summit League play this Friday when they take on Oral Roberts at CIBER Field. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m.
