Weinstein Cards another Top-10 Finish as DU Beats Three Top-60 Teams

Junior from Highlands Ranch notches fourth top-10 finish on the year
PHOENIX – Junior Mary Weinstein continued her great year on Sunday, notching her fourth top-10 finish of the season at the ASU Ping Invitational. Denver wrapped up the three-day event in 11th after a final-day team total of 11-over-par (299).
The Pioneers picked up three head-to-head win over top-60 teams (No. 34 Georgia, No. 54 Colorado and No. 59 Oklahoma State) in the tournament.
The 54-hole event was hosted by No. 16 Arizona State at the Papago Golf Course in Phoenix.
Par for the 6,430-yard course was 72.
Head coach Lindsay Kuhle went with the lineup of Sophie Newlove, Camille Enright, Trussy Li, Alyson Bean and Weinstein.
Anni Heck also competed, but as an individual.
Top-ranked Southern California used a monstrous final-round 9-under performance as a team to take home the team title at 5-under, one stroke ahead of the host Sun Devils.
The elite field featured 10 teams ranked in the top 34 in the most recent Golfstat rankings.
"We counted 71, 75, 75, 78 today," Kuhle said. "I truly believe that if we have all five players in the round and close to counting as well as score under 75, we are a top team in the country.
"I'm proud of the way we fought, grinded and got better this week in the desert. With attention to wedges, lag putting, putts inside four feet, competing and belief in our games, we will have a successful rest of the spring season."
Weinstein (T10) really had it going again on Sunday, firing a 1-under 71, bringing her 54-hole total to 2-under (214). The Highlands Ranch was consistent all week, finishing with three rounds all within a stroke (71-72-71) of each other and all par-or-better for the tournament.
"Mary was outstanding this weekend," Kuhle said of the junior golfer. "She shot 2-under and finished 10th. She hit is well and made a lot of solid putts. She's been reliable and steady for us this spring."
Newlove slipped four spots down the leaderboard on the final day of play, finishing tied for 50th after firing a 3-over 75 in her final 18 holes, to bring her total to 225 (74-76-75).
Enright wrapped up her tournament tied for 69th after shooting a 6-over on the afternoon.
The freshman tandem of Bean and Li finished up tied for 72nd.
Heck, competing as an individual, ended up in 84th.
The Crimson and Gold return to action on April 11 for the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens. Ga.
