DENVER – University of Denver gymnastics sophomore
Alexis Vasquez (Arcadia, Calif.) was named the Big 12 co-Event Specialist of the Week for the fifth time this season, the conference announced on Monday.
Vasquez captured her sixth beam title of the year with her 9.925 on the event during Denver's February 22 meet. She has competed on beam in every meet this season, recording scores above 9.900 in all but one routine. This week's performance came with the pressure of needing a hit routine to keep Denver from counting a fall on the event.
The Denver sophomore has now captured Event Specialist of the Week honors in consecutive weeks and in five of the eight weeks so far in the 2020 season. This week's award brings her career haul to eight.
DU gymnasts have combined for eight honors from the Big 12 Conference this season and at least one in each of the last five weeks.
The No. 6-ranked University of Denver gymnastics team, presented by Your Hometown Toyota Stores, is set for a Big 12 Conference showdown at No. 1 Oklahoma on Saturday, February 29. The meet will be televised live on ESPNU.
