Pios to Host 2021 Summit League Women’s Tennis Championships

The Pioneers will take on South Dakota in the first semifinal on Friday at 3 p.m. MT

DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team is set to host the 2021 Summit League Women's Tennis Championships this weekend at the Denver Tennis Park.  

Weekend Schedule
Friday – April 30 – Semifinal No. 1 – No. 4 South Dakota at No. 1 Denver – 3 p.m. MT
Friday – April 30 – Semifinal No. 2 – No. 3 North Dakota vs. No. 2 Kansas City – 6 p.m. MT
Saturday – May 1 – Final – Winners of the two semifinals – 2 p.m. MT

Denver enters the weekend 12-3, including a perfect 5-0 in Summit League play. The Pioneers won their eighth NCAA Division I conference regular season title this campaign, including seven-straight Summit League crowns.

Last Time Out:
The Pioneers swept South Dakota 7-0 last Saturday at the Denver Tennis Park to wrap-up the Summit League regular season title. Full recap

Series History vs. The Field:
Denver vs. No. 2 Kansas City

This year's regular season meeting was the first between the two programs, a 6-1 victory for the Pioneers on March 28 at the Denver Tennis Park.

Denver vs. No. 3 North Dakota
DU is 2-0 all-time against North Dakota, defeating the Fighting Hawks twice in Grand Forks. This will be the first meeting between the two programs at the Denver Tennis Park. Denver defeated North Dakota 6-1 on April 10th in the regular season meeting between the two programs.

Denver vs. No. 4 South Dakota
The Pioneers are a perfect 12-0 in their Division I history against their semifinal opponent, including 6-0 in the Mile High City and 2-0 at the Denver Tennis Park. Denver defeated South Dakota in the final weekend of the regular season by a count of 7-0.  

Significant Stats:

-          Anna Riedmiller is 13-1 in singles play this season, having won each of her last 13 matches.

-          Taylor Melville has won seven-straight matches, including a 4-0 mark on the No. 2 court this season.

-          Hada Chang and Toni Nelson have each won their last five singles matches.
