LONGMONT, Colo. – The University of Denver Women's Triathlon Team will compete in its first-ever meet in its home state on Sunday morning as the Pioneers will race at the 2021 Oktoberfest Sprint at Union Reservoir.
DU will race in one of the opening waves at roughly 8 a.m. MT, competing against other NCAA varsity and local collegiate squads.
Fans and spectators must arrive at Union Reservoir in Longmont no later than 7:15 a.m. MT,
as the road to the course will be closed soon thereafter.
Union Reservoir is located at 461 County Road 26, Longmont, CO 80504.
Sunday's race marks the second of the season for Denver, which began the 2021 campaign on Sept. 4 at the Pleasant Prairie National Qualifier in Wisconsin. DU did not score at the meet, as only four of its seven athlete were able to finish the race after two of them crashed on the bike and another was a planned DNF; five were needed to record a team score.
All nine members of the Pioneers squad are expected to race on Sunday in Longmont, with junior
Stormy Hegg and freshman
Marta Meinardi making their collegiate triathlon debuts.
The course features a half-mile lake swim before a single loop, 12.9-mile bike ride that will take the participants around the lake's vicinity on county roads 1, 5.5 and 7 and highways 66 and 119. The race will finish with a 3.1-mile out-and-back run on a gravel road along the lake's edge.
Among the other schools that will be competing are the University of Colorado Boulder, Colorado State University and Montana State University Billings.
