DENVER – The University of Denver women's tennis team (18-5) finished the 2022-23 season ranked No. 2 in the final ITA Mountain Regional Rankings sponsored by Tennis-Point, released on Friday.
Denver has appeared in every ITA Mountain Regional ranking since 2010 – the first year of the current regional structure. This is the second straight year and seventh overall that DU has been ranked in the top two in the region.
DU advanced to the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship after winning its ninth-consecutive Summit League Championship on April 22, falling 4-1 to then-No. 17 Oklahoma State. Denver has now made nine consecutive appearances at the NCAA tournament.
Denver finished the year with an 18-5 record including a perfect 6-0 in Summit League play – dropping just a single point. DU held a 4-1 record against its fellow Mountain Regional top-10 teams in 2023.
Three Pioneers finished ranked in the top 10 in singles: fifth-year student
Taylor Melville at No. 1, senior
Britt Pursell at No. 8 and sophomore
Andrea Burguete Beltran at No. 10. Melville advanced to the NCAA national singles draw and was ranked No. 106 in the final national singles rankings after ending the year with a 30-6 record. Pursell, too, won 30 singles matches and led the team with a 17-2 record in dual matches. Burguete Beltran went 24-12 on the season, holding a 14-6 record in dual match play, mostly in the No. 2 singles slot.
Melville and Pursell also appeared in the region's doubles rankings, coming in at No. 7. The duo led the team in wins at the No. 1 spot, going 6-3 in dual matches and finishing with a 11-6 record overall.
The ITA Regional Rankings include the top 10 teams, top 20 singles players and top 10 double teams across 12 regions.
