Denver Triathlon Adds Maira Carreau for 2023 Season

Incoming freshman is a member of Triathlon Quebec and Canada’s Development Team

DENVER The University of Denver women's triathlon team has added Maira Carreau to its roster for the upcoming 2023 regular season.

Carreau joins the Pioneers as a freshman while also competing as a member of Triathlon Quebec and Canada's National Development Team.

"I chose Denver mainly for its atmosphere and its triathlon program. The coach, Barbara Perkins, is super welcoming and the team has values that are really close to mine," Carreau said. "Also, during my visit, Denver felt like a familiar place, even if it was the first time I visited."

The La Prairie, Quebec, Canada, native won the World Triathlon Championship Series Grand Prix in Montreal on June 24 and finished in the top 20 in four Americas Cup races in spring 2022, including posting a career-best result in sixth in the Sarasota, Florida, on March 11.

Carreau placed ninth in the Pan-American Junior Championship in Uruguay in October 2022 and came in ninth at the 2022 Junior European Cup in Portugal. She also had a ninth-place result at the shortened Junior North American Championships in Sarasota in March 2022.

She graduated high school in 2020 from École Secondaire de la Magdeleine and intends to major in mechanical engineering at DU.
