DENVER – The University of Denver women's triathlon program announced today that the team has added
Maren York to its roster for the upcoming 2023 regular season as a graduate transfer.
York joins the Pioneers after spending four seasons on the University of Colorado club triathlon team where she twice represented the Buffaloes at the USA Triathlon Collegiate Club Championships.
"I chose DU because I have always looked up to their programs, both athletically and academically," said
York. "Before joining the team, I would sometimes compete against the DU women in triathlon, and they were always really tough competitors. I knew that was an environment that I wanted to be a part of."
Earning USA Triathlon All-American honors in 2022, York recorded three top-15 finishes at club national championship races at CU. She placed 10th in the draft-legal sprint and 13th in the Olympic distance at the 2023 and came in 11th in the Olympic distance and helped Colorado come in third place in the mixed team relay in 2022.
The Colorado Springs, Colorado, native took a gap year while attending CU as she spent part of 2020-21 deployed in the Middle East with the U.S. Air Force as an air transportation specialist. She also won the 2017 National Junior Pentathlon Championship while attending Cheyenne Mountain High School
"Maren comes to our team with a very interesting background," said Denver head coach
Barbara Perkins. "She was not only on the CU Boulder team for four years but also served in the Air Force. Maren is going to bring a lot of experience with leadership and invaluable knowledge about serving her country first-hand."
She also recorded a third-place result at the 2022 Tritonman draft-legal sprint in San Diego, California, and finished sixth in her age group at Ironman Boulder 70.3 this past summer.
York graduated from CU Boulder in 2023 with a bachelor's degree in international affairs and a minor in German. She intends to earn her master's degree in environmental policy and management at Denver.
