Maira Carreau Earns 2025 First Team All-American Honors

Triathlete earns her third career award, just the 16th non-skier in DU history to accomplish the feat

DENVER Junior Maira Carreau of the University of Denver women's triathlon team has been named a 2025 first team All-American by the College Triathlon Coaches Association.

Carreau earned the distinction after placing fourth at the 2025 Collegiate National Championships this past Saturday at Tempe Town Lake in Tempe, Arizona. The DU captain stayed near the front of the pack for nearly the entire race and clocked in with a total time of 1:03.13.1, 10 seconds faster than her national title victory in 2023 on the same course. She finished the 750-meter swim in 10:23.6, recorded a 33:41.7 split in the 20-kilometer bike and ran the 5K in 18:01.8—her quickest time of the year and seventh-fastest all-time in Pioneers history.

The La Prairie, Quebec, native has finished in the top 10 in each of her three national championship races, earning first team All-American honors each season. She and placed seventh in 2024 in Clermont, Florida, after winning the individual national championship in 2023 in Tempe.

Carreau placed in the top 10 in each of her four races during the 2025 regular season. She began the campaign by placing fifth in the Southern Hills super sprint on Aug. 30 and came in seventh two weeks later on Sept. 14 at the Desert's Edge Triathlon. She closed the fall season by earning All-West Region Team honors with a sixth-place result at the Western Regional Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, on Oct. 26 before posting her season-best finish in fourth on Saturday at the national championships.

The Canadian is Denver's first-ever triathlete to be named an All-American in three straight seasons, and it is the 12th individual All-America award in program history (seven individuals). Overall, Carreau is one of 56 student-athletes in DU's Division-I history to earn three All-American awards and just the 16th non-skier to accomplish the feat. Gymnastics' Lynzee Brown was the last Pioneer to do earn at least three national accolades (2019-2021, 2023).

All-Americans were determined based on the triathletes' finish at the 2025 National Championships. Finishers 1-7 made the first team, finishers 8-14 were on the second team and finishers 15-21 were recognized as honorable mentions.
