Denver Triathlon Names 2025 Team Captains

Elizabeth Harita and Maira Carreau set to lead the Pioneers this season

DENVER The University of Denver women's triathlon program announced today that senior Elizabeth Harita and junior Maira Carreau have been named team captains for the 2025 season.

"I'm excited to announce Elizabeth and Maira as team captains for this year's season," said Denver head coach Barbara Perkins. "It's been a pleasure watching Elizabeth develop as a student-athlete and person over the last three years, as she has found her voice and grown as a leader. Maira has made an impact on our team since she first stepped on campus and has been all-in with our program. She has been great at integrating newcomers to our squad and helps push everyone to be their best. I'm proud of what both Elizabeth and Maira have achieved with us so far, and I am confident that they will be great leaders for our young squad this season."

Harita is coming off her first career victory after leading the field in the NCAA Super Sprint on March 2 at the Clermont Challenge during the Pioneers spring season. The Anaheim, California, native owns nine top-10 finishes and has placed on the podium three times in 21 career races. Denver's team MVP in 2024-25, Harita has competed at each of the three Collegiate National Championships and helped DU to a third-place finish as a team in 2022.

Carreau owns three individual victories and seven podiums and top-five finishes in 10 career races, all achievements that are already team records through her first two seasons on the squad. The La Prairie, Quebec, native won the Division-I National Championship as a freshman in 2023, becoming the first DU triathlete to win a national title and the 128th individual championship by a student-athlete in Denver athletics history. In 2024-25, Carreau recorded four top-10 finishes and three podiums in six total races, including becoming the Pioneers' first repeat first-team All-American triathlete after placing seventh at nationals.

Denver is set to open the 2025 campaign on Labor Day weekend at the Southern Hills Triathlon Super Sprint. The program will announce its complete fall regular-season schedule in the near future.
