Denver Triathlon Announces 2025 Schedule

Pioneers racing at Desert Edge Triathlon near Grand Junction on Sept. 14

DENVER The University of Denver women's triathlon team announced today its 2025 regular-season schedule with the five-meet campaign beginning over Labor Day Weekend at the Southern Hills Triathlon in South Dakota.

Denver starts the season in Hot Springs, South Dakota, for the second straight year with the Southern Hills collegiate super sprint on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Pioneers placed second in the event in 2024 and won the full sprint race in their first visit to Angostura State Recreation Area in 2022.

DU returns to racing in its home state on Sunday, Sept. 14 as the Pios head to the western slope for the Desert's Edge Triathlon in the Grand Junction area. Denver will be taking part in a full triathlon in Colorado for the first time since the 2022 Oktoberfest Sprint in Longmont and last raced on home soil in 2023 with the Aquathlon Eliminator Duel against Colorado Mesa on campus. DU will face CMU and other western squads in the race at Highline State Park near Loma.

Three weeks later, Denver travels to Central Illinois for the Prairie State Collegiate Cup on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Clinton Lake State Recreation Area near DeWitt.

The postseason gets underway on Sunday, Oct. 26 with the Western Regional Championships at Marine Creek Reservoir in Fort Worth, Texas, with Texas Christian University hosting the qualifier. DU is familiar with the course as it has raced on it the past two seasons at the Battle in the Fort Triathlon.

The Collegiate National Championships return to Tempe, Arizona, and Tempe Town Lake on Saturday, Nov. 8 after last year's event was held in Clermont, Florida. The Pioneers have finished in the top four as a team in each of their previous three races in Tempe, and junior captain Maira Carreau won the individual national championship at the venue as a freshman in 2023.

NCAA programs compete in sprint-distance draft-legal triathlons, which usually features a 750-meter swim (0.47 miles), 20-kilometer bike ride (12.4 miles) and 5K run (3.1 miles) with transitions in-between each stage. Super sprint races tend to be half of the distances of the sprints and are completed in half the time (around 30 minutes).

Denver placed in the top five in all four meets in fall 2024, which also included a third-place finish at the Western Regional Championships in Springfield, Missouri.
