Denver Looks to Lock-Up One Seed in Marquette Clash Saturday

The Pioneers clinched at least a share of their third-straight BIG EAST regular season crown, but can earn the No. 1 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament with a win on Saturday

DENVER – The No. 10-ranked University of Denver Pioneers women's lacrosse team welcomes Marquette to Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in the regular season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT.  

Last Time Out: Denver had its eight-game winning streak snapped by Colorado in a midweek clash on Wednesday night, dropping a 12-10 game at Peter Barton. Bea Behrins had a four-point night and Lauren Black had the seventh hat trick of her freshman season in the loss. FULL RECAP

Three-Peat: With its 16-8 victory over Villanova last weekend, Denver clinched at least a share of its third-straight BIG EAST regular season title. The Pioneers have won nine regular season championships since turning Division I, taking the MPSF titles in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2013 and 2014, before winning the BIG EAST in 2019, 2021 and 2022. Denver still has a lot to play for with Marquette on Saturday, as the Pioneers will clinch the No. 1 overall seed in next week's BIG EAST Tournament with a victory this weekend.

Series History: Denver is 6-0 all-time against Marquette, including five BIG EAST regular season meetings and a 3-0 record at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. In the two meetings in Milwaukee last season, Denver won the series opener 16-6 before gutting out a 12-11 win in double overtime in the finale (RECAP).

Up Next: The Pioneers host the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time in program history next weekend, welcoming Connecticut, Georgetown and Marquette to Peter Barton. Seedings and match-ups will be finalized after Saturday's games. Denver's semifinal will be played at 1 p.m. MT, with the opening draw of the neutral site semifinal set for 4 p.m. MT.

  • Senior Kailee Lammers was named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, while midfielder Mollie Estepp was named Freshman of the Week. Lauren Black was recognized as well for her sock trick performance by being named to the conference's weekly honor roll.
    • Lammers had a career-high six draw controls, four caused turnovers and three ground balls vs. Villanova.
    • Estepp scored twice for her second career multi-goal game.
  • Denver's 202 caused turnovers as a team are second in the nation, but the squad is first in the country averaging 13.47 CTs per game. The 213 caused turnovers rank fifth all-time in program history (13 behind last year's total for fourth).
  • The Pios have allowed just 8.12 goals per game, the sixth-fewest in the country.
  • DU has scored double-digit goals in 12-of-14 wins and at least 14 tallies in five of the past six games.
  • Defender Sam Thacker is one of 25 women nominees for the Tewaaraton Award, given to college lacrosse's top player.
    • Thacker is first in the country with 48 caused turnovers and a 3.0 average per game.
  • Bea Behrins ranks 28th in the nation in goals per game at 3.31.
    • Behrins leads the team with a career-high 53 goals and a career-high 71 points.
  • In program history, Berhins ranks…
    • Fourth in career goals with 181, six behind third-place Steph Greenlees (2003-2006).
    • Sixth in career points with 233, three behind fifth-place Ali Flury (2003-2006).
    • Third in games played (77) and is expected to tie the program record on Saturday.
