CLERMONT, Fla. – The University of Denver triathlon competed on Saturday at the 2023 Draft-Legal Clermont Challenge, the first of two days of competition for the program in the spring.
Denver raced in the under-25 national development race at Lake Louisa State Park, with sophomore
Clara Normand leading the Pioneers with a fourth-place finish. She finished the sprint distance in 1:03:00.4, posting a 11:00 swim, 30:42 bike and 19:30 run.
The race comprised of a 750-meter swim in the lake before a four-lap bike portion totaling 20 kilometers. The sprint distance event concluded with a two-lap run for five kilometers.
Sophomore
Olivia Ebenstein also posted a top 10 by placing in ninth, coming in 50 seconds after Normand in 1:03:50.9. Graduate student
Melissa Funes was 13th in 1:04:11.8.
Elizabeth Harita came in 16th,
Coco Diemar finished 21st,
Avarie Faulkner placed 29th and
Nadiya Linde-Elmhirst was 42nd.
Arizona State's Naomi Ruff won the race in 1:02:30.0. Denver 2023 incoming freshman Alex Campbell finished fifth behind Normand in 1:03:11.8.
The Pioneers wrap up their spring competition on Sunday, as the triathletes will compete in a variety of races that are being staged at the Clermont Challenge.
