DENVER – Olivia Wimberger of Shakopee, Minnesota, is set to join the University of Denver women's triathlon team for the upcoming 2025 fall regular season.
The incoming freshman has been busy this past spring, racing in the Clermont Challenge Super Sprint in March, Texas Draft-Legal Triathlon Festival in April, East Coast Triathlon Festival in May and Pleasant Prairie Youth and Junior Development Cup in June.
"I chose the University of Denver for its academic opportunities, strong triathlon team, excellent coaching and its location,"
Wimberger said. "All of these things were very important to me when choosing the next step in my academic and athletic journeys."
Wimberger is a four-time letterwinner in swimming at Shakopee High School and served as a team captain last year as a senior. She was named to the All-Conference Team three times (2022, 2023, 2024) and twice awarded Minnesota All-State honors (2023, 2024). Additionally, Wimberger helped SHS's swim team to a section championship in 2024—the program's first such title in 37 years—as well as a third-place finish at the 2024 state championships.
She competed in club swimming for Aquajets and earned qualifying times for the National Club Swimming Association in the 100-meter breaststroke, 200-meter breaststroke and 200-meter individual medley. At the high school level, she received her team's Most Dedicated Award in 2023 and the Coaches Award in 2021 and 2024.
Wimberger twice lettered in mountain biking in middle school and intends to major in physiology in health and disease at DU. She was an Honor Roll recipient in each of her four years of high school and was also recognized with the Health Science Academy Award while also being a member of National Honor Society and Student Council.
