TULSA – The University of Denver men's soccer team were reduced to 10 men in the 56
th minute before suffering an extra time loss at [RV/RV] Oral Roberts on Saturday night at Case Soccer Complex.
"I'm really proud of my guys' effort tonight," head coach Jamie Franks said. "You can see how much the victory means to Oral Roberts. Up until last weekend, we hadn't lost to a Summit League opponent since 2014. That's a tremendous feat for the program. I think we get everyone's best game. When you go down a man, it's hard because you really dig yourself into a hole. We've been undisciplined all year and it came back and hurt us tonight.
"It's been a super tough season for my guys, but I really do believe that I have a good team and that I have good leaders. I saw my team tonight with their resiliency and their fight. We have to take this result and get better from it. All eyes are on qualifying for the Summit League Tournament."
Neither goalkeeper had much to do in the opening 45 minutes of play, with both teams only mustering one shot on target. Referee Andrew Ellsworth produced a caution a side in a first half that featured 24 fouls.
Sophomore
Stefan DeLeone (Fort Collins, Colo.) was cautioned in the 29
th minute and received his marching orders in the 56
th minute to reduce the visiting Pioneers to 10-men.
Oral Roberts goal came in the 93
rd minute on Dante Brigida's sixth goal of the season. Brigida got on the end of a stop from goalkeeper
Will Palmquist (Denver, Colo.) that was bouncing in the box, before he smashed home the winner for the Golden Eagles.
